Nearly there

We've been mad busy all week putting the finishing touches to the project. All the inventions are complete and are in the room for the exhibition. This is how they look now...

'The Steam Powered Mac' 'Guided Grappling Hook' 'The Gramopod'

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

This week we put the finishing touches to the 'Gramopod'. It incorporates the look of an old wireless Gramophone and an ancient form of ipod. We also completed exterior shots of the newsreel to be shown in our museum. The shoot involved filming the 'bots', these are humanoid robots which feature heavily in the timeline for the museum. Above is some pictures from the costume test before the shoot.

We had our Demo this week which we think went pretty good. After deciding that the wind up device wasn't essential to the project the plan was changed to using a button that is pressed a number of times. Another interactive Encarta type page will be added to the Macs menu and this will inform users on other inventions and events that are not on the timeline. The 'Gramopod' and 'Heat Seaking Spear' are nearly complete. Below is an image of the spear and the speaker for the Gramopod...

This week some of the dictator scene was shoot, there are only a few more small scenes to be done. Were currently collecting old images of 19th century people and saving videos onto our youtube channel.

We are going to create a viral to promote the project later this week.
The visual timeline is also being worked on. The flash menus still have to be linked together and arduino and flash are still not connected properly. We may have to use plan b which will be a button instead of a wind up device.
This is how the 'Steam Powered Macintosh' and it's menu will look.

Inventions Are Go!

We are currently working on the Gramomixer which has changed slightly. It will be an invention that merges a Gramophone with an iPod style holder. The invention will have a good grain effect and will play swing music! The menu is nearly completed but still having problems getting the wind up device to work with the Mac, we'll get it working within the next two weeks.
A visual plan was done in 3D Max for the exhibition plan heres how it looks...

Project News

We managed to get the Arduino connected with Flash last friday...oh yeah! On our easter break now and we have all got different parts of the project to be working on. Main objectives now are to get most of the inventions completed by the end of next month. Some graphics were done today for a 19th century Facebook on the 'Steam Powered Mac' and also the keyboard is starting to look nice and ancient. Plan on getting some measurements for the 'Gramomixer' and bamboo for the 'Heat Seaking Spear' soon enough.

Newsreel Research

This week we are made a checklist of what still has to be done. Its divided into digital content and physical construction.
Over the easter we plan to get our focus group done, this will give us feedback from students who have similar interests as our project.
Below are some links for the audio and newsreel influence.

Let the programming begin! woohoo

This week we were working on the intro screen for the Mac. It's done like an old film with grainy effects and sound bars coming across the screen. The arduino is now blinking, so our next task is to get it talking to Flash. This will involve downloading AS3 Glue and a lot of messing about with it. We got feedback after the master class and he reckoned that we should simplify the idea and concentrate on the inventions the most.

Research Photos

Today we went searching for locations for the 1940s newsreel. The Guinness Brewery seems to have the style we were looking for. We also found antique shops that have Victorian furniture and photos of buildings and the robot that we can use for the Timeline.

New Logo

We simplified our logo for the project, let us know what you think of it.

Technology and The Script

The Arduino came in during the week. This will be used for the wind-up Mac so that the Potentiometer can react with the computer. This will be the biggest task of the project.
By next week we hope to have a led blinking with Arduino. We have been working on concept
for the desktop of the Mac. The script is also due on monday and on wednesday were going
to look for locations for the newsreel.
